The EARCOME (East Asia Regional Conference on Mathematics Education) is an educational seminar developed by the International Commission on Mathematical Instruction (ICMI) and focusing on math education research in the Asia Pacific region. The International Mathematics Education Seminar is held once every three years and was held in the past in the following countries:

EARCOME 11998       Republic of Korea

EARCOME 22002       Singapore (EARCOME series started here)

EARCOME 32005       China

EARCOME 42007       Malaysia

EARCOME 52010       Japan

EARCOME 62013       Thailand

EARCOME 72015       Philippines

ICMI is the highest mathematics education organization in the world. It was founded in 1908 in Rome, Italy. Member countries are all state representatives. ICMI organizes a number of research groups on mathematics education. Every four years, an international conference is held in the name of ICME (International Congress on Mathematics Education). ICMI also compiles special books for mathematics education. In 2006, the PME30 International Symposium was held in Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic. G. Hanna, co-president of IPC, Canadian-renowned mathematics education scholar, consulted Professor Lin Fuyi of the Department of Mathematics, Taiwan Normal University, and was willing to host the ICMI Study 19 International Conference. The theme of the ICMI Study 19 For Prove and Proving in Mathematics Education, Professor Lin Fuying and many mathematics education scholars in Taiwan have devoted many years to this topic research and accumulated many fruitful results. Prof. Lin Fulai therefore agreed to host this event. This is the beginning of Taiwan’s hosting of ICMI activities, followed by Professor Lin Fuying, Under the zealous encouragement of Prof. Hong Wansheng and Prof. Zuo Taiyi, Taiwan also regularly held ICMI large-scale events. For example, the ICME-9 Satellite Meetings of HPM in 2000 and PME 36 in 2012 were recognized by the participating scholars.
