The Asian Pacific Association for the Study of the Liver (APASL) has been established in Singapore for more than 30 years since it was established in August 1978. It is an important international initiative for improving the research and teaching of liver medicine. The main goal of the organization is to promote the advancement of liver medicine and shoulder the important responsibility of education for liver medicine in the Asia Pacific region. APASL has held academic conferences every two years (Singapore, 1978, Auckland, New Zealand, 1980, Hong Kong, 1982, Bangkok, Thailand, 1984, Singapore, 1986, New Delhi, 1988, Jakarta, Indonesia, 1990, Seoul, South Korea, 1992, 1994 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 1996, Rawalpindi, Pakistan, Perth, Australia, 1998, Fukuoka, Japan, 2000, Taipei, Taiwan, 2002), held annually since 2004 (New Delhi, India, 2004, Indonesia, 2005, Bali, 2006, Philippines) Manila, Kyoto, Japan in 2007, Seoul in South Korea in 2008, Hong Kong in 2009, Beijing in China in 2010, Bangkok in Thailand in 2011, Taipei in Taiwan in 2012, Singapore in 2013, Brisbane in 2014) Experts and scholars from around the world involved in liver medicine. The Asia Pacific Association for the Study of the Liver (APASL) holds an important position in the international liver medicine field. The annual general meeting is another event outside the annual meeting of the American Association for the Study of the Liver (AASLD) and the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL).

The 2012 Asia Pacific Association for the Study of the Liver (APASL) annual meeting will be hosted by the Taiwan Society of Gastroenterology, and will invite liver research specialists and related experts from around the world to participate in the medical community. With the new knowledge exchange platform, VIP guests from all countries can gather together to discuss the latest academic topics, and they can jointly witness the progress of Taiwan’s medical standards and the results of its efforts, effectively enhance the academic status of Taiwan’s liver medicine, and experience first-hand the progress of various construction projects in Taiwan. Enjoying the natural beauty of each place, feeling the cheerfulness and humanity of the Taiwanese people, tasting the famous Taiwanese cuisine, etc., can be described as the best bridge for bringing Taiwan’s national image into line with international standards.
